David and Leann Tjarks of Goldfield IA own Ears Down Rabbitry. Dave Tjarks has had rabbits most of his life. He bought his first purebreds in 1976 and his first papered French Lops within the next year. Ears Down was presented its first Best of Breed trophy by Doris Leibel in 1979. Since then he has raised, or owned, 20 plus recognized breeds.

Together David and his wife show throughout the Midwest. Dave joined the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) after he started exhibiting at sanctioned shows, and has been a member for over 20 years. Dave has served at a state level in various capacities within the Iowa State Rabbit Breeders Association (ISRBA). Dave served as a Vice President of the ISRBA for 2 years and as President for 10 years before choosing not to run for re-election. Dave was the recipient of the ISRBA Lifetime Membership Award in 2000. Dave and Leann joined the North Central Iowa Rabbit Fanciers Association (NCIRFA) shortly after it was chartered and were active members until 2007.  Both Dave and Leann have been active in various specialty clubs over the years.
